Back in LA

Okay, the ammount of time I've taken to get back to this log is inexcusable. I really do seriously kind of apologize for leaving you all hanging. But I am going to make a real effort to post here as often as possible from now on until I die from whatever is going to kill me.

I'm in Los Angeles with my family, working on a pilot for CBS and Warner Brothers, which I'm going to star in when it gets shot sometime this April. It is very exciting. We have been given what is called a "Put Pilot" which means that they are guarenteeing that the pilot will be shot. I've developed a few other pilots in the past but the deal has always been that shooting the pilot is uncertain. Basically, you work for about half a year writing a pilot, you hand it in around the hollidays, and the network executives take your pilot home and read it over christmas, along with about a hundred other scripts. If you are very very very very lucky, they will choose to shoot yours. In most cases, and in every case I'd been involved with, they pass, pay you for the writing services and say goodbye. I have gained a lot from these experiences because anytime you write anything you get better at it, and I learned a lot about writing for a network. But it's very frustrating to create work that no one ever sees. In this case, we know we are going to shoot this pilot so we can just concentrate on writing it well.

The other thing that is different about this from other pilots I've written, is that I'm writing it with two other guys, Bruce Helford and Bruce Rassmussen. These are two very talented and experienced show runners who have created such shows as The Drew Carey Show, The George Lopez Show and Wanda At Large. They have a great track record. I am learning a huge ammount from working with them.

In the meantime, I'm trying to prepare myself for this very interesting experience I'm going to have, which is acting in a real network sitcom pilot. First of all, I'm trying to get in shape by not eating giant piles of candy and cake every ten seconds and I've been running on Venice Beach, about four and a half miles a day. I've always loved running but I often find it hard to run consistently, every day. But these days it's been great because we got a jogging stroller and my 2 year old Daughter loves to go with me.

The only other thing I'm doing to prepare, is that I'm trying to stay as funny as possible and looking for new performance opportunities. I'm trying to do lots of club dates in the city and I even got to be a guest on the "Groundlings" show here in LA, doing Improv for the first time.

Meanwhile, the "Bruces" and I work every day at refining the script and making it better.

Sorry all of this is not so funny and just informative but I am just trying to catch you up. The next entry will be so funny that you will murder ten people after reading it.

Okay, that's all for now, my friends...

Thanks for reading,

LCK
